An act to amend Sections 13951 and 13956 of the Government Code, relating to victim compensation, and making an appropriation therefor.



Revises the definition of crime to include an incident in which an individual sustains injury or death as a result of an encounter with a peace officer, regardless of whether the peace officer is arrested for, charged with, or convicted of committing a crime. Prohibits the Victim Compensation Board from denying an application, in whole or in part, based upon a deceased victim’ s involvement in the events leading to the qualifying crime if the victim’ s death occurred as a result of the crime.
