State: Caifornia - Berkeley City Council

The mayor of Berkeley proposes an omnibus motion, recommending that the Berekely City Council adopts 5 different proposals to initiate a robust community process to reimagine policing as well as specific proposals to conduct analyses and initate new approaches to public safety, explictly in light of the George Floyd murder and the “nationwide movement for racial justice.”

Request of immediate action, based on vote, to allocate $150,000 to establish an Office of Racial Equity in the city of berekely to provide a systematic Citywide approach to closing any racial inequities in the allocation and delivery of all City programs and services. Addresses protests for police accountability and racial justice in the wake of George Floyd’s death,acknowledges racial disparities in income, education, and health through statistical analysis.
