Advancing Fair Sentencing and Expanding Pathways to Release

scales of justice

Despite ample evidence that long sentences do not enhance public safety, people continue to be sentenced to lengthy sentences that can span decades, including life without parole. We research the scope and impact of extended incarceration, design mechanisms for sentencing relief and second chance opportunities, and work with people impacted by long sentences to advance evidence-based sentencing policies. By promoting second chances and fairer sentencing, we aim to build a justice system that values accountability, redemption, and public safety.
