Bio

Jennifer Melton is the Senior Communications Coordinator for the Wilson Center, where she works on internal and external communications, including media relations and press inquiries.

Prior to the Wilson Center, Jennifer worked in marketing and as a public historian. Before coming to Duke, she served as Program Manager for the Center for Civil Rights History and Research at the University of South Carolina where she worked on research, programming, and exhibitions about civil rights history in South Carolina and across the country. Her work often connected the history of the Civil Rights Movement to issues of racial equity and justice in the present. Jennifer received her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her M.A. from the University of South Carolina.

Outside of the Wilson Center, she serves on the board of Duke Homestead State Historic Site’s non-profit support group as well as volunteers with Friends of Geer Cemetery, a historic African-American cemetery in Durham that dates back to 1877.
