Bio

Katie Gary is a Research Analyst for the Wilson Center working with the behavioral health team. Before joining the Center, she was a Research Scientist for Assessment for Good, which is a non-profit that aims to make educational assessment more formative and equitable in order to support a learner’s well-being and development from a social systems perspective. Katie was also a Postdoctoral Research Associate for Duke University in which she studied racial disparities in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) at the Biodemography of Aging Unit located within the Social Science Research Institute.

Katie received her Ph.D in Sociology from Kent State University where the focus of her research was on the sociology of mental health, health inequalities, stigma, and emotions. She also received a M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, where she performed child/family therapy to help improve the well-being of children and teenagers aged 5-18 using a systems-ecological, cognitive-behavioral, and strength-based approach.
