Bio

Lindsay Bass-Patel is a Policy Analyst with the Wilson Center, where she works on addressing racial and socioeconomic inequities in the criminal legal system that are data-informed to spotlight and eliminate arbitrariness, undue severity, and unfairness. She is currently focused on four areas: fines and fees reduction, low-level policing reform, plea bargaining reform, and second chances for people sentenced to life and long sentences.

Prior to joining the Wilson Center, Lindsay worked at NC Prisoner Legal Services (NCPLS) for 12 years.  As a post-conviction attorney at NCPLS, she investigated and litigated claims of wrongful convictions and illegal sentences in state court. Then, for two years she was the managing attorney for the NCPLS civil team where she litigated Section 1983 federal civil rights claims, including excessive use of force and sexual assault claims.

Lindsay received her J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her B.S. from Meredith College.
